Should a student require regular feedback on their progress, the tutor will offer review sessions if needed. If a student finds homework from their tutor especially useful, homework can be arranged.

What is the Learn App?

The Learn App is our ‘live’ educational platform which includes our online classrooms and our unique interactive e-booking system. Here you can also find the Lesson Finder, where you can browse tutors and book them directly once you have registered. When you register with the Learn App, an account will be created for you, where you can access much more than just the tutor profiles. You will be able to see upcoming and past lessons, manage your transactions and add family members to your account. The Learn App is time-zone sensitive, reflecting the time zone in which you are. As such it automatically converts the slots specified by tutors in the UK into Hong Kong time.

Do lessons take place on the Learn App?

Once you have booked a lesson with a tutor on the Learn App, you will receive a link the online classroom where your lesson will take place. There will be live video, audio and  a messaging service to engage with the tutor together with an interactive white-board system in which both student and tutor can upload and annotate presentations, PDF’s, images etc.

Who are the tutors we work with?

The tutors with whom we work are selected from top British universities: Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics, Imperial College London and other Russell Group Universities. As well having achieved the top grades and being a specialist in their subjects, we expect the tutors to be enthusiastic, articulate and well-motivated individuals. The application process for tutors is exacting and meticulous and all are personally interviewed; we expect the highest standards from our tutors, not only in their academic backgrounds but also in their teaching abilities. 

Who do we tutor?

Tute.HK focuses on tutoring children up to the age of 18. We cover a wide range of subjects and exams from 11+, 13+, Pre-Tests, Common Entrance, and UK School entrance to GCSE, A-levels, Pre-U and IB. In addition to curriculum-focused education, there is the option of wider learning for those whose interests extend beyond exams. For those looking to apply to university in the UK, we also offer help on university applications, aptitude tests, personal statements and interviewing skills.

What types of tutorials do we offer?

We differ from most other tutorial companies as our technology allows us to offer different types of lessons. We can provide both individual (one to one) and group lessons.

In an individual tutorial a tutor teaches a single student on a topic of the student’s choosing whereas a group lesson consists of a minimum of two pupils and maximum of eight pupils, all using the same platform at the same time. Group lessons are especially useful for classmates who enjoy working together.  As well as tutors, we have fully qualified teachers working with us. 

Each lesson typically lasts 50 minutes.

What information is provided about the tutors?

We recommend that you contact us to get a better understanding of our tutors and so that we can help you to match your child’s learning goals with our tutor experience. We have profiles for all the tutors with whom we work including the subjects they teach, their qualifications, their tutoring experience and teaching style.


How do I find a tutor?

You can access the Learn App here or directly through the URL. This will take you to the ‘Lesson Finder’.

If you have registered already, you can enter the Learn App by clicking the ‘Login’ button at the top of the page.

You can search for and find tutors In the Lesson Finder. You can search by different criteria; choose which subject you wish to study, what level you are studying at, and when you wish to have a lesson. You can also specify what type of lesson you would prefer (Individual, Group or Webinar), the tutor’s gender and their rating.

Our system will filter the search based on your requests, and show you matching tutors. You can browse the selection and click on a profile if you want more information regarding their qualifications, experience and availability. On their availability you simply select the slot that suits you and add it to your cart.

What if I find a suitable tutor but they are not available when I need?

All the tutors with whom we work fill out their availability on their profile, where you can book the appropriate lesson directly by clicking on the slot you wish to book. However, if you cannot find the time you are looking for, you can contact them directly by clicking ‘Contact Me’ on their profile, or searching for them on the in-system messaging app. Most tutors are flexible and willing to fit in with your diary.

How do I contact a tutor?

You can message them using the Learn App messaging service. This is possible in two ways.

Firstly, choose a tutor’s profile and click the ‘Contact Me’ button immediately below their photo. You can send them a message explaining what you want. If you do not have an account, you can choose to register by clicking the ‘Contact Me’ button, and registering.

Secondly, for those who already have an account, there is a message icon in the header of the screen. Click this header, and type in the name of the tutor to message them.

Can I rebook the same tutor?

Of course! You can go back into the Lesson Finder, find your tutor and rebook them. Alternatively, if you are the main account user, you can go to the ‘My Account’ page and see your lesson history. If you scroll to the right, you will see a button labelled ‘Actions’. Click on this, and select ‘Book Again’ and you will be taken to their availability page.

Can I get a tutor I currently use onto your platform?

If you give your tutor our email address help@oepasia.com, we will guide them through the process of becoming a tutor with us. Please understand that we only accept a select few of the tutors that apply to us, and the process may take a while as we are very thorough with our screening process.


What subjects and levels can I study?

We cover a wide range of subjects and exams from 11+, 13+, Pre-Tests, Common Entrance, and UK School entrance to GCSE, A-levels, Pre-U and IB. In addition to curriculum-focused education, there is the option of wider learning for those whose interests extend beyond exams. For those looking to apply to university in the UK, we also offer help on university applications, aptitude tests, personal statements and interviewing skills. You can choose the appropriate level by selecting from the ‘Level’ dropdown menu.

When can I learn?

We know that students need tutors who can teach around their school timetables, and most of our students learn in the evening and at weekends. Our tutors are based primarily in the UK, which means that they are ideally placed to tutor during the afternoon and evening in Hong Kong.

How do I request a subject that is not currently available?

Please email us at help@oepasia.com and we will check our tutor records for that subject. We expect tutors to have a thorough knowledge and understanding of their subject, and consequently do not accept tutors with anything less than exceptionally high standards in a subject (e.g., to degree level).


How does our booking system work?

We know that time is precious and you want control over your choice of tutor. For this reason, we created our own unique pages where you can search for and book tutors. Here tutors display their expertise and availability, and you can hand pick the tutor who suits you or your child best. In this way we cut out the laborious and lengthy process of sending emails back and forth and give you total autonomy over your choice of tutor.

In the Learn App you can browse tutors according to your subject and level preferences on ‘Lesson Finder’, and can book a time that works for you. Once your lesson is booked, we will send you the link to the lesson which you can access at the appropriate time. We advise that at this point you contact your tutor to discuss what you want to cover in the booked lesson.

In addition, you can assign lessons to a family member. If you add credit to your account, that balance is shared by your family members.

How do I book a lesson?

Having chosen your tutor, you can read more about them by clicking on their profile. Here you can see their availability and choose a time that works for you: once chosen, you can book the slot by clicking on it and adding it to your basket. You can add multiple items to your basket and pay for them in one go.

There is no minimum booking requirement. You may book tutorials on a lesson-by-lesson basis, or book a set, entirely at your own convenience.

What happens when I make a booking?

Once you have paid for your lesson – via credit card or by using pre-loaded credits – you will receive an email confirming your lesson and containing the link from which you can access your lesson.

At this point we strongly advise, especially if it is your first time having a tutorial with that particular tutor, that you message your tutor regarding your expectation and wishes for the lesson. You can send them an email on the in-system messaging service. This is accessible in two ways: one, navigate to ‘My Account’ and find the appropriate lesson, scroll to the right and click ‘Actions’. A drop down menu will appear; select ‘Contact Tutor’ and send a message describing what you wish to study in the lesson.

You will be sent a reminder email one hour before your lesson starts, where you can follow the link and log into your account. Your tutor will be there to start the session.

Do I get an email confirmation of the booking?

Yes. When you book a session you will receive an email confirming your session and including a link to your online lesson. Following this link you will be asked to log into your account, and your tutor will be there to start the session.

How do I make sure a booking is confirmed?

We have designed our booking system to be as efficient as possible: consequently, once you have booked a slot that a tutor has declared available, consider it confirmed. We do however advise that you book a tutorial at least 24 hours before it is due to start, to allow your tutor time to prepare the lesson. We also strongly recommend that you contact your tutor with your expectations for the session ahead of time, especially if it is your first session with them.

How can I set up a group lesson?

This can be done in two ways:

Firstly, you can request a group lesson through getting in contact with us at help@oepasia.com. We will then find a tutor who is able to give a lesson to multiple individuals and we will notify you when this lesson has been created. You can request the subject and number of students that the lesson will be available for.

Secondly, group lessons that have already been created, such as a revision class, will appear in the ‘Lesson Finder’ and you can book the class in the same way you would for booking an individual session.

What if there are no spaces available for a Group Lesson that I want to join?

If you wish to participate in a group lesson and no spaces are available, please get in contact with us at help@oepasia.com and we can see if we can add spaces.

How do lessons work?

You will be sent a link to our interactive learning platform via email. When the lesson is about to start, simply click on the link and you will be taken to your lesson where your tutor will be waiting.

All our lessons are conducted on this interactive platform, which uses video conferencing technology with embedded whiteboards to maximise learning potential. All you need is a decent internet connection, headphones and a microphone, and you’re all set to learn. You will also be able to chat to your tutor using instant messaging, if you prefer. The whiteboard will be under the tutor’s control but this is transferable, meaning that your tutor may ask you to write or demonstrate your understanding on the whiteboard.

For group lessons, the same process applies. The only difference is that there will be multiple people you are able to communicate with.

After your lesson you can leave the learning platform simply by clicking ‘exit’, and can review the recording in your ‘Playback’ section, which will be available half an hour after the end of your lesson.

What happens when the lesson is about to start?

Once taken to the platform, you will have to accept the use of your microphone and video, at which point you will be ready to for the session. You may have to give access permissions on your browser.

  1. There will be video of both you and the tutor in the bottom left of the screen. You can expand this if you wish, and are not using the interactive whiteboard.
  2. There will be a section on the right hand-side of the screen where you can type using the keyboard.
  3. In the centre of the screen there is an interactive whiteboard. Here documents can be uploaded, either taken from our database or uploaded yourself. Using the tools on the whiteboard, the tutor can make you the presenter and you can annotate your document live in front of the tutor.


Can I rebook the same tutor?

Of course! On the ‘My Account’ page, you will be able to see your lesson history. If you are the main account holder, and you wish to rebook the same tutor, just scroll to the right, click ‘Actions’ and choose ‘Book Again’ This will take you to your tutor’s profile, where you can browse their availability to book another lesson. Alternatively, you can contact them directly, through our messaging service, to arrange a new lesson, or return to their profile on the Lesson Finder page.

What about homework?

We don’t prescribe homework as part of all our lessons; however, if you wish your tutor to give some exercises related to the subject material you can make arrangements with them to your specifications.

Can I give feedback to a tutor?

Yes, you can contact them directly through the messaging service on the Learn App. Tutors welcome feedback on their lessons, especially as regards lesson structure and content.

Can I leave a review of the tutorial to Tute.HK?

Yes, we welcome reviews on your tutorial experience. To give feedback, please email us at help@oepasia.com.

How do I finish the lesson?

Each lesson will be 1 hour long. About 5 minutes before the end of the lesson, the tutor may wish to wrap up the topic you are currently learning and give a short summary of the lesson. This is also an opportunity for the tutor, if you wish, to set homework, or at least an exercise for the next lesson.


What is the policy for cancellations?

Tutors are not allowed to cancel a tutorial, and can only reschedule. They will contact you at least 48 hours before the lesson to discuss rescheduling.

If you need to cancel a lesson, please contact help@oepasia.com at least 48 hours before and we can either reschedule or refund your credit balance.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

If something comes up and you need to change the time of your tutorial, you can reschedule or cancel up to 48 hours before the beginning of the lesson. You can reschedule by going to the ‘My Account’ page, choosing the lesson and clicking ‘Actions’, then ‘Contact tutor’.

If you need to cancel a lesson, please contact help@oepasia.com at least 48 hours before and we can refund your credit balance.

What if my tutor reschedules the tutorial?

Tutors are allowed to reschedule, but not cancel a tutorial, and only with a minimum of 48 hours’ notice. The tutor will message you with their reason for rescheduling the lesson and offer possible alternatives. If you cannot reschedule, you can cancel the lesson by emailing us at help@oepasia.com and we will refund your account credit straightaway. What if I’m late for a tutorial?

Your tutor will wait for you for 20 minutes. If you are later than this, it will be regarded as a ‘missed’ lesson and the tutor is allowed to leave the session. You will not be refunded for this lesson.

What if the tutor is late for a tutorial?

The tutor should start the session before the allocated time, in order to prepare for the lesson, so it is unlikely that a tutor is late. However, should a tutor arrive less than 10 minutes late to a lesson, they are required to make up the time, either at the end of the lesson or at another time.

If they are more than 10 minutes late, the lesson is regarded as a ‘missed’ lesson and you will be refunded the lesson credit.

We have a very strict policy for our tutors, and tardiness is not tolerated. We ask that you report any late arrivals to us immediately at help@oepasia.com.

How long will a tutor wait for me?

Your tutor will wait for you for 20 minutes. If you are later than this, it will be regarded as a ‘missed’ lesson and the tutor is allowed to leave the session. You will not be refunded for this lesson.


What do I need for an online session?

In order to run an online session, you will need a computer with a good internet connection, camera, and microphone. You may wish to have writing materials with you if you prefer to make notes on paper, or a graphic tablet if you prefer to virtually write using a stylus.

What should I do if I have internet connection problems?

If you have problems with your internet connection we suggest you restart the internet, firstly on your device, and if this fails, at the main wireless box. If the problem still persists, please let the team know at help@oepasia.com, and we can organise the rescheduling of the lesson.

Who should I call if I cannot get onto the platform?

If you are experiencing difficulty accessing the platform, please do not hesitate to email us at help@oepasia.com. Alternatively, you can call us on +852 3166 5988.


How much do Tute.HK tutorials cost?

Fees for tutorials are largely dependent on the type of tutorial you are booking. Group sessions cost less per student than individual sessions, and webinars vary in price. All fees are shown on the ‘Lesson Finder’.

Individual lessons

An individual session is a one-to-one session between tutor and student. This ensures maximum interaction between tutor and student, and sessions can be tailored to the individual student’s needs. Most individual tutorials cost HK$500.

Group lessons

A group session is a tutorial between a tutor and multiple students. This shares the cost between students.


How do I pay for lessons?

There are two ways of paying for your lessons.

The first is to use your credit card to pay every time, using the secure payment system Stripe. This is a simple and straightforward method for purchasing individual lessons; however, it allows little flexibility.

The second is to upload credit to your account, which can then be used by your family members should they wish to book their own lessons. This method avoids students having to enter payment information while still being able to peruse tutors and book lessons at their own leisure.

What is Stripe?

All card payments are made through a third party payment provider, Stripe. Stripe is a secure integrated payment processing system, with a strong fraud prevention emphasis. Stripe can store your card details to enable one-click purchasing, improving the fluency of the payment process. Stripe can also process payments from customers anywhere in the world in 138 currencies.

Where can I see my account balance?

Navigate to the ‘My Account’ page, where you can see your credit balance as well as the lesson history of you and your family members.

How can I share credit with family members?

All credit that you upload to your account will automatically be shared between family members. Family members can use that credit and the balance will be updated in real time. For example, should Family Member A book a lesson, Family Member B’s credit will reduce by the that amount.


What are Tute.HK’s policies for staying safe online?

The online safety of all our users is very important to us. Our site has been developed with this in mind, and we have a number of checks in place to ensure that tutors and students remain in a safe environment at all times. One of the important functions is that any parent or Tute administrator can view the lesson at any time during the online session. We are currently adding the recording of lessons – and a playback feature – to our tutoring software. We have a strict code of ethics that all our tutors are required to adhere to, and we expect that all parents and students likewise treat tutors with respect.

How can I watch my child’s tutorial?

You can view your child’s lesson at any time. You simply click on the lesson link that we provide and join the lesson. We recommend that you join as “audio only” so that you do not disrupt the student and tutor. You can then watch your child’s lesson from any location that has an internet connection.

What if I am uncomfortable about the treatment of my child online?
